
An emergency meeting was held between the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Levan S. Dzhagaryan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism at the Ministry yesterday (13) afternoon.
This was in response to the lifting of sanctions imposed on Russia, allowing the purchase of Russian oil as a solution to the breakdown of fuel supply networks due to the conflicts in the Middle East.
Accordingly, the Foreign Minister has discussed with the Russian Ambassador, Mr. Levan S. Dzhagaryan, the acquisition of Russian fuel as another step to continue Sri Lanka's fuel supply.
It is said that the Ambassador has agreed to immediately inform the Russian government of Sri Lanka's request.
It is noteworthy that he has also promised to coordinate with the relevant institutions and make the necessary arrangements for this.
During this discussion, the Russian Ambassador had indicated that Sri Lanka will receive Russian support at any time.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Labour, Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation D. J. Rajakaruna, and secretaries and officials of the ministries.
