
COLOMBO – Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, visiting Sri Lanka as a special envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to hold high-level talks with the Sri Lankan leadership today.
High-Level Meetings Dr. Jaishankar arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday evening on a special Indian Air Force flight. His itinerary for today includes a crucial meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake this morning. Following this, he is expected to hold discussions with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath.
Support Following Cyclone Ditwah The visit comes at a critical time as Sri Lanka recovers from the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, a primary focus of this visit is to reiterate India’s solidarity and ongoing commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in its recovery and reconstruction efforts.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties As a special representative of Prime Minister Modi, Dr. Jaishankar’s brief visit underscores the "Neighborhood First" policy of India. Discussions are expected to cover regional security, economic cooperation, and the progress of Indian-funded development projects in the island nation.
