Colombo-Sri Lanka - Newsfirst reported that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has been summoned before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with an alleged misuse of state funds for the renovation of the United National Party (UNP) headquarters, 'Sirikotha.'
The report claims that an inquiry has been launched into the allegation that public funds were allocated for the development of Sirikotha, which is the property of a political party. CIABOC is said to be seeking statements from Premadasa and other officials linked to the project. This investigation follows earlier questions raised this year about the funding sources for the renovation. Former UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had also previously appeared before the commission in relation to the probe.
However, in response to an inquiry, the Legal Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), President's Counsel Farman Cassim, stated that they have not yet been informed of any such summons. (NewsCenter)
